PUT THE BRAKES ON DRINKING AND DRIVING WITH AAA SOUTH DAKOTA’S “TRIPLE OPTION”
NEWS from AAA South Dakota, Dec. 28, 2011 – AAA South Dakota has three good ideas which can make this New Year’s Eve safer for South Dakota motorists and would-be drivers who are celebrating the start of 2012 with alcoholic beverages.
- Assign a designated driver. Usually in any group of friends or family, there is at least one person who doesn’t drink and would be happy to drive the rest of the group home safely. Or, if not, rotate the responsibility from person to person, from night to night. Or, draw straws.
- Mix and enjoy “mocktails.” Alcohol-free mocktails can be the life of a party, allowing drinkers to intersperse their alcoholic beverages with zero-proof concoctions, slowing the rate of alcohol absorption into the blood stream, and giving non-drinkers and kids a fun way to be a part of the party. Here’s the recipe for the Margarita Meter Maid, an original beverage which competed in AAA’s Great Pretenders Mocktail Mix-Off:
1 ½ oz. grapefruit juice
1 oz. lemon juice
1 teaspoon Rose’s lime juice
a squeeze of a fresh lime wedge
1 cup ice
Shake all ingredients well in a shaker. Pour into a glass with a salted rim and float a fresh lime slice.

News & Safety section of AAA.com.
- Call for AAA’s Tipsy Tow service. Now until 2 a.m., Jan. 2, 2012, AAA will give the caller and one more person plus a car a free ride home, no questions asked. The program is open to AAA members and nonmembers alike at no charge in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Aberdeen, Mitchell, and Yankton. AAA will tow within a 15-mile radius from point of pickup but will only go one place: home. Call (800) 222-4357 and ask for Tipsy Tow.
